Monster: Too bad you want out
Tale
After her life falls apart, soft-spoken actress Laura Franco finds her voice again when she meets a terrifying yet strangely charming monster living in her closet. A romantic-comedy-horror about falling in love with your inner rage.. Filmed at The Ritz and mostly in New Jersey. I have this pretty neat monster routine now. I think you’ll find it very, well, scary.. Link to Amanda the Jedi Show: The BEST and Weirdest Movies You (Mostly) Haven’t Seen Yet | Love Lies Bleeding (2024). Laura Franco is a young actress who has hit rock bottom.
Actually, Your monster really surprised me
She is diagnosed with cancer and her boyfriend breaks up with her "need a break" After spending some time alone, she finds a long-haired monster living in the house closest to her. Laura becomes very close to this strangely charming monster when she gets a job in a play directed by her ex-boyfriend. Saw this one for Melissa Barrera and it did not disappoint. It takes three genres and combines them like a pro to create a heartfelt and twisted horror novel. Watching a Carolyn Lindy film feels like you’re watching a theater kid’s dream, and I loved that. The story is so entertaining between the adorable romance between Laura and Monster, the clever humor throughout the film, the juicy drama with the theatrical production and Laura dealing with Jacob, twists I surprisingly didn’t see coming, and a really memorable ending. The atmosphere is so classy, like watching an old school romcom with a neat gothic twist.
Laura and Monster’s romantic relationship is absolutely adorable
I could easily see this being a great comfort movie for those going through bad breakups. Speaking of which, Lindy does a great job of capturing the cruelty and tragedy of divorce when someone is at their worst. She also points out that what Laura’s boyfriend did was wrong and that she needs to stand up for herself very strongly. This has to be one of the worst breakups I’ve seen on film and it shows that he was never there for her. I also like that despite this, Lindy shows that someone who has been hurt may find it difficult to let go. go completely. I’m no expert on romantic relationships, but this got me thinking about relationships a bit.
It helps that Melissa Barrera and Tommy Dewey have fantastic chemistry
They have a lot more in common than they think, and watching their bond grow is effortlessly adorable. At first the relationship felt very strange as the Monster seemed unlikable at first, but as the film progressed he grew on me and I can see why the two are so much better with similarities and differences that compliment each other well. Another thing I liked is that they show that friendship takes more than just giving things and spending a few minutes. Now there’s a twist with him, but overall the movie encourages people to be better friends and not do the bare minimum. This movie has a surprising amount to say about the people around you and why it’s important to spend more time with your friends. Melissa Barrera as Laura Franco is so good in this movie. She perfectly embodies the role of a broken woman with her expressions, dialogue and actions.
Tommy Dewey is a wonderful monster
Her feuds with Jacob and Mazie are wonderful to watch. It’s also really cool to see Barrera in a role like this, which brings out a certain insecurity and frustration, making her performance even more authentic. His mannerisms, his casual speech to Laura when they first meet, and his recitation of classic literature make him very entertaining to watch. Dewey owns the role and looks like he’s having so much fun playing this strange creature every minute he’s on screen. Barrera and Dewey share a delightful chemistry with each other.
