He’s just divorced, he’s just out of a lesbian relationship
Tobias (Andrew Garfield) crashes into a car driven by Almut (Florence Pugh). He remains in the hospital until he wakes up, and because – despite a broken arm and neck – he’s already discharged (not enough beds – political commentary there!) takes him to dinner.
Despite this unpromising start, mutual attraction prevails and the couple begins a relationship that lasts for years
The two leads make a fascinating pair, especially Pugh as the fiery Almut, playing the nice guy Tobias a little too nerdy to be entirely believable, but he manages to stay on the right side of annoying (and if the shapely bare bottom in the bathroom scene belongs to him and not the body double – just saying…) None of the other actors get enough screen time to make an impact, although I was surprised to see Douglas Hodge play Tobias' father – twenty or thirty years ago, he probably would have played the male lead himself. This is a good example of a chick flick: romantic, cheesy and doesn’t leave a dry eye in the house.
I’m not sure I’d watch it again, but I’m glad I saw it at least once
