Four children on their home planet make a mysterious discovery that causes them to become lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in Skeleton Crew; and even more stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains the young Neel siblings is the same Chewbacca family clock from the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special (1978).
Skeleton Crew is a television series for children
And that’s a good thing, because Star Wars has often been kid-friendly, and why shouldn’t there be Star Wars-themed shows for kids? But it’s not an adult-friendly show about kids like Stranger Things or Paper Girls. It’s more like a show designed specifically to appeal to ten-year-olds and no one else.
The Skeleton team begins operations in the suburbs
It’s the suburbs of the Star Wars universe, but take away the robots and aliens, and this could be where I grew up. So that was an interesting twist for a moment or two. Unfortunately, these suburbs are populated by boring characters with uninteresting problems.
Will it be better when Jude Law shows up?
And yes, it’s all building up to the big moment at the end of the first episode, but I was so bored with that first episode that halfway through I just started skipping ahead and even the last act felt like – hmmm. Maybe. However, I feel that if the first episode of a series is so boring that I can’t stand it, it probably won’t improve any time soon.
