With an estimated budget of €429 million, The Count of Monte Cristo is the most expensive French film of 2024
Tale
After escaping from an island prison where he spent 14 years for being wrongly accused of treason, Edmond Dantès returns as the Count of Monte Cristo to seek revenge on the men who betrayed him. When Albert watches Hydee sing and play guitar, it is very obvious that she is not even touching the strings half the time.

Usually not a fan of action movies, the wonderful cast and the choice of a classic of French literature convinced me to go see THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. And boy, was I not disappointed!
Despite its three hours of length, the film never gets boring
When he’s not keeping us on the edge of our seats, he’s showing us breathtaking scenes of 19th century France, leaving us wondering how they did it with only €40 million! I guess the beautiful cinematography and clever editing played a part in making this film stand out from the much more expensive Hollywood productions.
Thank you Alexandre, thank you Matthieu 🙂
Of course, a lot of credit also goes to Alexandre Dumas for coming up with such a poignant story, but adapting it to the screen was certainly no easy task either, and it’s done wonderfully here. I sincerely hope this film has a career outside of France, because more people deserve to see it.
