Karin, a tomboy, finds herself abandoned by her father in the Japanese countryside. Living in a temple with her grandfather, she meets Ansu, a giant “ghost cat” and is tasked with taking care of her. Distrustful of her new guardian, Karin interrupts Ansu’s services for the townspeople and befriends the local forest spirits. In an attempt to win Karin over, Ansu accidentally makes a pact with the devil and all hell breaks loose.
